Online learning of Serbian as a heritage language in 2018
The Academic Serbian Association in cooperation with the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis and the Technical College in Nis, successfully implemented the project “Online learning of Serbian as a heritage language” for students from the diaspora. During that project students of Serbian language taught classes to participants from all over the world. The project was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia.
The project lasted from September 17th, 2018 to December 9th, 2018, and 20 students participated in it, working with 25 participants. Students of Serbian language underwent training in the field of Methodology of teaching Serbian as a heritage language, which was conducted by Ph.D. Marina Janjic.
Online learning
Within this project, students of the Technical High School from Nis created an LMS portal for learning Serbian as a native language online. Besides Skype, student-lecturers also used the LMS portal where they posted lessons, courses, homework, quizzes, as well as many other interesting things that they used in working with students. The big advantage provided by the LMS portal is the possibility for students to rate the teachers, and vice versa, all with the aim of improving the teaching process.
On that occasion, a ceremony was organized at the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis, at which prof. Dr. Natalija Jovanović, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy in Nis, awarded the students with certificates. Tamara Ciric, the president of the ASA association, informed the attendees about the extremely commendable results of the research that was conducted among the Serbian diaspora about this project. It is important to point out that this was the first realization of the Serbian language course of the Academic Serbian Association for the descendants of Serbian emigrants and that there is great interest in it in the world.
